Day Thirty-One
It took a month, but I finally got fired. I deserved to be fired on day one. Truly.
I am still a cheer coach, dance teacher, janitor, cafeteria lady, mom, and product manager, but today my Tiny Boss fired me from my position as a Kindergarten Teacher.
THANK GOODNESS.
After a month of fighting nonstop because everything was terrible and Mila didn't want to do any of her work, we finally figured out what does work for her. She will happily sit in her sister's room and do her school work while Alexis also does her school work. It makes no damn sense at all, but it's true. Mila will practice writing, watch videos, fill out worksheets, whatever. She just won't do it if I'm anywhere near by. She wants to be exactly like her big sister, so there we have it. Alexis is now in charge.
While I am 99% fine with this arrangement, there is 1% of me that's a little ... offended? I think I'm offended. It took Alexis a week to get Mila to actually read. Like, she was reading every word that was put in front of her without argument or frustration. She just ... read. Like I knew she could. Yet, she has refused to do it for me for as long as she's been alive. I'm pretty sure she didn't wake up today suddenly recognizing words, so Mila was most definitely playing games.
I'll get over being offended eventually, but only because I'm sort of glad I got fired. By the way, Mila LITERALLY fired me. I sat down next to her this afternoon to help her with a worksheet and Mila turned to me and said, "Why are you here?"
I explained myself. "I want to help you with your school work!"
"Mom, you're not allowed to help me. I fired you," Mila replied. "You can still be my mom, though."
