Mila's preschool does a "Star of the Week" thing, which I think is fairly common. It's a week when a kid gets to be first in line and take the first turn at things. It's also a week when they get to do a few extra things. In her case, that includes taking home the class stuffed dog and sharing photos of her family and blah, blah, blah.
You get my point.
That is the explanation for how Andy has wound up being everywhere this week.
Andy is the stuffed dog that her entire class has taken a turn with at home. Andy has gotten to go to church, a baseball game ... all sorts of adventures.
For his turn with Mila, he got to do, um, nothing much. Our weeknights are generally spent running around like a crazy family with too many activities. Which, hey! We resemble that remark! Between Alexis' dance classes five days per week and Mila's dance and hockey, all I do is play taxi driver. Mila has her choice of being carted around or hanging out at home with dad, and whatever. She can do what she wants. It's just not going to be all that exciting.
AND YET.
The magic that is four years of age is magic indeed. On Monday, Andy joined us at hockey practice because he super doesn't like to be cold. Mila told me so. That hour of hockey was just enough time to crochet Andy a perfect little sweater. I may be a Hot Mess of a Mom, but I'm the sort of hot mess that crochet's the class dog a sweater. BOOM.
Andy also got to help make cookies. WITH HIS FACE ON THEM.
His face is nothing more than globs of strategically placed frosting. For real, I think it took me about 20 minutes to decorate 24 cookies. Nothing, really. But Mila and Andy were SO IMPRESSED. Mila positively gushed about the Andy cookies and jumped out of bed this morning because she couldn't wait to share them with her class.
Mila's not a morning person. I didn't know she was capable of jumping out of bed in the morning.
Which is all to say, there may not have been a big adventure in there for Andy, but Mila was really super happy with the mini adventures we found with the little time we have.
Thanks for the reminder that the small stuff matters a lot, Mila. I needed it.
