That's So 2020

What's old is new again, I suppose, but is there a reason that kids born right around 2005 are stealing everything from the 90s? We've always known that Alexis was born at the wrong time, but recently ALL of her people have been making it pretty clear that they're so 30 years ago.

Which, THE HELL? 1990 is THIRTY years ago. Not twenty. That doesn't hurt to realize or anything.

ANYWAY.

On any given day, you can find a group of 8th graders singing Bohemian Rhapsody at the top of their lungs. I realize that's not a 90s song, but it did make a huge comeback in 1992 with Wayne's World. That makes it a 90s song. To make matters worse, last week I listened to a bunch of whippersnappers singing Bohemian Rhapsody and one of them was wearing a Nirvana shirt.

A NIRVANA SHIRT. And he he knew who they were and everything.

Scrunchies are back. All the way back. As are episodes of Friends. Every middle school girl I know, and there are a lot of them, can recite every line of every episode because they all watched every episode while the show was on Netflix.

Cropped shirts are getting paired with freakin' mom jeans. MOM JEANS. They're high-waisted and baggy and basically they're hideous, but I thought that the first time they were around. Maybe I was wrong. (I wasn't wrong.)

Alexis asked for Dr Martens for Christmas. No joke. I actually refused because I decided THAT is where the line is. You can bring back the 90s, but you're not bringing back my Dr Martens. There is probably an old pair in a closet around here anyway. It would be dumb to spend a ton of money on a new pair.

And then Alexis stole my jean jacket. I've managed to keep the same jean jacket hanging in my closet since college. I had to put it away a few times when the shoulders seemed a bit too boxy for the styles of the day, but then it would come back and all was well.

I still wear that jean jacket, especially in the summer. I STILL LIKE THAT JEAN JACKET. THE ONE THAT IS MUCH OLDER THAN THE KID WHO KEEPS STEALING IT.

I'm going to need 2020 to find its own thing. This stealing from the 90s thing is cramping my style.
