I Kinda Want to Make Out with Pittsburgh Now
Someone once asked me, "Why Pittsburgh?" I couldn't really answer the question, other than to say that sometimes you step foot in a city and you just know you're home. That's how I feel about Pittsburgh. From the SHAZAM! moment when you drive through the Fort Pitt tunnel towards downtown to the amazing network of museums, from the top of Mount Washington to the very edges of the suburbs, from the crazy sandwiches with fries and 'slaw on top to the pierogie shops all over town, I just plain love this city. So much.
If I had to pick one thing I love most, it would be the people. Yinzers are some amazing, kind-hearted, hysterical people. Whether it's Kenny the Cotton Candy Guy (although, he always seems to be yelling "Beya Heya" when I see him), a close friend, a total stranger, or a guy walking down the street sporting a mullet, I can be sure that no matter where I go, I'll run into someone who would move mountains to protect Pittsburgh and to make sure it stays just as amazing as it can. Yinzers support one another, even as they go on with their eccentric ways.
I've explored a lot of Pittsburgh. We often do the tourist thing on the weekends because there's nothing better than finding something you hadn't seen within your own city. When I posted the Single Best Town Contest, I expected to find out about a few new places within Pittsburgh. A few. Instead, I got about 13534123 times a few. There were a lot of places listed that I absolutely *must* check out soon. I've pretty much got our entire summer figured out, so thank you to everyone who commented. A big, huge congratulations to the winners (Rachel and Cass) from that post as well.
Based on all of the comments on that post, I would have thought Pittsburgh would win the whole shebang over at the Kraft site. Well, it didn't, but Three Lakes, Wisconsin did. I've been there and I have to admit, it's a pretty gorgeous place as well. So a big congrats to Three Lakes!
Thanks again to Yinz for giving so many great ideas for places to go and see, and thanks to everyone who played along with Kraft's Single Best Town Contest.
Disclosure: I have partnered with KRAFT Foods to help promote the “Single Best Town” in America program. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about my own hometown experiences and hosting a giveaway where the prize has been provided by KRAFT Singles. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

I love how much you love this town. Maybe it's because you weren't born here, weren't raised here, that your Pittsburgh appreciation is even more special to me. You're right--Pittsburghers are protective of Pittsburgh, and of their (our) fellow Pittsburghers. We saw it at its inspiring best with Jamie and Ali during the Haiti earthquake crisis. So whether it's a Browns fan or an earthquake, there's a caution: If you mess with one of us you mess with all of us. It's a home and family thing.
