I've already mentioned that mornings are a frantic race to the finish at our house. From the moment my alarm goes off until we pull out of the driveway, it's hurry-hurry-hurry-hurry-hurry. Except, of course, for the part where I hit the snooze button a few times too many. Whoops.
Every time I hit that snooze button, I know that I'm changing what Alexis will get to eat for breakfast. The first snooze takes away the minutes it would take for me to make her a hot breakfast. Needless to say, that first snooze is purely a ceremonial act and I have never actually intended to get up quite that early.
If I hit snooze again, I take away the minutes Alexis needs to eat her Strawberry Delight Mini Wheats while lounging in our bed and watching old episodes of Scooby Doo. When I only hit the snooze button once, Alexis is a happy camper. She gets her favorite cereal, knows that she is eating something healthy, and she gets to partake in Scooby's shenanigans. All in all, it makes for the perfect start to the day.
Normally it's "you're out" if you make it to three strikes, but in my case three times with the snooze button only lowers our standards to the Drive-by Waffling stage. I love that I can grab Alexis something filling and nutritious to start her day. Now, if only she didn't have to eat her Eggo Waffles while strapped into her car seat . . . Oh, well. Such is the life of someone who can could find the snooze button on a mobile alarm clock. Seriously, the thing could grow legs and start running around the room and I would STILL manage to hit snooze at least once. OK, probably twice. Ahem.

What about you? Does what you feed your kids change when you get a late start on the day? Tell me and you could win a $100 Visa Gift Card, courtesy of the Mom's Breakfast Club. Official rules for the giveaway can be found over here, and you can find additional opportunities to win over there.

My son always liked routine when he was little, but he is flexible now that he is older!
If there is a late start to the day it definitely takes a hit to make up some time on breakfast. When running late its dry cereal or waffle with no syrup in the car.
I make breakfast burritos in advance and freeze them - they nuke up quite well.
My kids get a NutraGrain bar on the go if we are running late!
When we get a late start they still eat cereal. We eat cereal everyday! A cereal bar works even faster! thanks!

My daughter is all about smoothies right now so I always have one for her in the morning and don't tell her but I add veggies to it too so she gets a full serving of that and fruit so is good to go till snack time at school
If I get a late start then most of the time it's frozen waffles or poptarts

In a rush it becomes toast to eat in the car, a package of string cheese, and a banana thrown in my bag if still more food is needed.
We have a 20 minute school commute, so time is definitely of the essence. If we hit snooze a few too many times, we typically opt for a smoothie (pre-made, pour it in a cup) and toast! Or a piece of fruit and english muffin. I have some thing about getting as many fresh fruits and veges in my kids, so every meal must have at least one (preferably 3)!
I don't have kids, but what I feed ME certainly changes depending on if I have a late start. If I'm too late getting going I grab crackers (or a banana if I have any) to eat in the car :(
My kids are grown and I'm retired, so I don't really have such a thing as "a late start" anymore. :)
Cold cereal is the best way to feed children when one is running late. Virtually no prep time.
My kids always start the day with a bowl of cereal and glass of juice other wise, they just didn't seem to get a good start.

My kids get breakfast at school -- it's crap food but really probably not that different from most boxed cereals. I will miss feeding them wholesome food. But I am glad that on non school days we can wake up whenever. I miss wearing grown up clothes and having a good income but I don't miss that alarm clock. I do however now have a human alarm clock that goes off at 5am, and Charlie does not have a snooze button.
His breakfast stays the same but we lose out on snuggle and play time, so not worth the extra ten minutes sleep!
My son could eat peanut butter sandwiches for every meal if I let him, so that's his usual breakfast, and it's easy to make. If we're running too late he gets a pop tart.
When Blake was little he ate breakfast at the sitters or daycare. Then when he started school he never ever wanted breakfast. We still kept cereal and breakfast bars but I never forced it because I was never a breakfast eater growing up either. I know big FAIL for this mom! Now he is in his first year of college. (sob!) Thank God he lives close and we can still take him out on Sunday for lunch or dinner. We will see if he will continue that tradition... it's only been two weeks.
Definately a granola bar if we are running late!
Well, no kids to feed at my house, but I do have a husband - he's now convinced of the benefit for oatmeal, so I buy a big bag of quick cooking stuff and it sits in his drawer at work. Hot water from the coffee machine, and his breakfast is taken care of (and out of my hands!!!)
No kids here. The hubby grabs a banana and and energy bar and I opt for oatmeal or a peanut butter bagel. My all time favorite cereal has to be Kashi Cinnamon Harvest.
We are cereal eaters and occationally frozen waffles in the toaster over...but when we are running late to school, it's frozen mini pancakes in the car that only take 30 seconds in the micro and a cup of OJ. :)
We like frozen waffles and smoothies.
Cereal (cheerios/wheat chex/life) in a bowl with milk when we are on time. Same cereal in a baggie in the car when running late. I also try to keep frozen bagels on hand to nuke and take with us. Only bottled water is allowed in the car.
Most mornings - yes. Yesterday we were running late so she had to eat the waffle in the car so there goes a nice toasty waffle with butter and syrup. If we have time she gets a choice, if we don't she gets whatever healthy thing I can get in her :)
Nope, she eats breakfast at daycare and because of a food allergy to soy I stock the freezer at home with homemade muffins and pancakes for easy substitution to the menu items at school she is allergic to. So 30 seconds in the microwave and she has pancakes or a healthy muffin to eat with her classmates.
I am lucky that we don't have to be anywhere except on Tuesday and Thursday when Sabrina needs to be at school. I haven't had to beat the clock yet for that (she has only been 4 times so far - it will happen as I too am a champion snooze button finder). My plan for those days is a granola bar and banana - only because she won't eat the waffles w/o honey on them.
Nope, we don't have this problem, since Dylan's grandparents come here to watch him the days I work. I never understood the snooze thing. My husband does it, too. I am so out of it in the morning, there is no way I would be able to keep track of how many times I can/cannot hit that button!
It's been awhile since I've experienced the time crunch of school mornings, but our grandson is now living with us and he started 2nd grade this morning...so it's back! He loves cereal, Eggo waffles, or toast with peanut butter so he's pretty easy. Luckily he sets his alarm and gets himself dressed. I don't know where he got that morning enthusiasim cause it sure wasn't from his Dad or Mom!

My daughter has either cereal or a waffle with Yogurt every day. She refuses to eat eggs, so a hot breakfast is just toasting her waffle.
I never hit the snooze, I hate it. But when I am late (usually due to putting more time into my hair than usual) I definitely miss breakfast...
School hasn't yet begun for us so we'll see how I will handle this struggle next week. Since I am now a SAHM, I will have more time to try to prepare something for them everyday. At least that is the thought in my head. They prefer cereal or pop tarts anyway and that is pretty fast.
Miles wants catfood, and that's what he gets whether we're running late or not. He starts asking for breakfast around 5 a.m.; whether he gets it then depends entirely on how late Mrs. Crappy and I were up the night before.
Sometime I'll have to try giving him a waffle. That might be fun...
We usually alternate between Strawberry Delight mini wheats and "fireworks"...aka whole grain waffles cut into triangle pieces and placed back into a circle, topped with yogurt instead of syrup, and strawberry slices placed in between each waffle slice, giving the appearance of "fireworks"...or so my 2 year old claims.
But let's not forget the cold pizza he had for breakfast yesterday...
no kids for me but if i am working night shift i dont even bother eating until dinner, surprise its usually cereal!!!!! i have this thing for frosted rice krispies which i found in florida and brought back with me. they are awesome with milk and just by themselves. i am contemplating trying them in rice krispies treats
Consistency makes our mornings run better, but when our best plans fall apart, I try to have a back up plan in the car to get some healthy protein into my son Chase in case we are running behind (almonds, kashi, soynuts). When I get tense he seems to feel it and react accordingly.
Our daycare actually had a federal grant to feed all of the children (even the schoolers) breakfast every morning. The problem is, because I am mean and force my children to eat early in the evening, they wake up STARVING and demand food RIGHT THAT MINUTE. They have a choice between yogurt or half a cup of cereal. (And usually they only want what we don't have. Of course.)
Really, the hardest part about having kids is remembering to feed them. :) I keep a stash of bars in the car for all the times I forget. My bad. :)
If we're in a hurry, I feed my daughter cereal to save the cooking time of other choices.
I usually eat on the run, but sometimes I have to sit down long enough to eat a bowl of cereal.
How early or late doesn't effect breakfast so much as whether we have to leave the house....
When I'm in a big rush, cereal bars or granola bars is what we grab.
Bagels are super-portable! Or little boxes of raisins. Or Nutri-grain bars. Sometimes I make a cheese burrito (a couple hunks of cheddar on a tortilla, nuke for 20 seconds, roll). All reasonably portable.
I definitely changes. Sometimes a late breakfast becomes an early lunch. I really need to put more emphasis on a good, hearty breakfast.

Yes! Granola bars are the quickest thing on the menu. Frozen waffles with peanut butter are second!
my mom use to feed me fruits when she gets a late start. now i usually grab a banana to go when i get a late start.

My just-turned-3 year old will eat Cheerios anytime, anyday, including when we're on the run. The crazy kid turns down Chocolate Cheerios, though!
If we are running late, we stick with finger foods. Since Jack is still mastering the use of a spoon, I avoid yougart, applesauce etc if we have limited time.
Mornings are always chaos. Pop an Eggo or a Pop tart in the toaster and we're good-to-go!

Our breakfast definitely changes according to the time. I have cereal, instant oatmeal & frozen waffles on hand for those rushes mornings.
