Day Eleven

You know what's fun? It's freakin' day eleven and we have no idea what we're counting up to. NO FREAKIN' IDEA.

Ahem.

(This moment of UUUUUGH brought to you by the fact that I just got off the phone with co-workers in China. They are officially on the other side of this thing, but still calling into meetings from separate locations. As in, they're in the office, but they are continuing to social distance and such, just not as strictly as they were. Their total shutdown started around the beginning of February, but was much more dramatic than what we're doing. So, 6-7 weeks, but they did a better job because oppressive/controlling government and culture of compliance and all that. UUUUUUGH.)

(Aaaaaaaand compartmentalize. Lock it in a box, set it aside, and GO!)

Hi, there!

(Is it weird that I do that? I really do that. Compartmentalize, I mean.)

(ANYWAY.)

(One more set of parenthesis just for fun.)

So ... when last we checked, Alexis was binge-watching Gilmore Girls. She has now officially finished Season 7, so tomorrow night. Tomorrow night will be the night when she finds out about Rory and Logan post-college. This is going to be SO fun.

If Mila lets it happen.

Miss Mila, she who is obviously the center of the universe because of course she is, is at war with her sister. What's super interesting is that Alexis has also declared war. Alexis, she who has to approve all mentions and photos of her that appear on my social media platforms, is recently all, "WAAAAH! You take more pictures of Mila! And talk about her more!"

That does not mean she is suddenly granting me lots of permission to post things. She's steady as can be in that department. She is, however, doing a phenomenal job of telling me to take pictures, and then she yells "BUT DON'T POST THAT!" She also has this fun trick where she wears clothing that way too clearly identifies exactly where we live because she knows I won't post any photos of her wearing said clothing. It's a fun game. She wants more social media attention, but she doesn't, but Mila gets more, but that's okay except it's not and 14. 14 is such a logical and wise age to be.

Ahem.

While Alexis is busy yelling at me to take photos of her and talk about her here (except don't, not about that anyway) (she approved this, though, and isn't that weird? 14-year olds are weird), Mila is over yonder being all, "WAIT! I AM THE BABY! TREASURE MY EVERY MOMENT!"

Seriously. We went for a hike earlier today and Mila legit had a meltdown because I took a single photo of Alexis and didn't ask Mila to squeeze into it. One. Photo.

And then we got in the car to drive back home.

Both girls always talk at me simultaneously. I say "at me" because it's literally that. Words fall out of their faces, but they don't listen for my response. They just ... ramble.

So they were both rambling, but Alexis said something that somehow got my attention, so I acknowledged it. It was so unimportant that I literally can't remember what it was, but it was enough for me to say, "Oh, really?" as if I maybe cared or something. I'm sure I didn't, but that's not the point. I said, "Oh, really?"

I don't remember what Mila was saying at the same time because I am a horrible human who doesn't listen to her kids talk. We're not surprised by that fact. Whatever Mila said, though, apparently didn't allow for "Oh, really?" to be the response because OH. EM. GEE. MILA LOST HER DANG MIND.

She went on and on about how I never listen to her (which ... is sometimes true but SHE NEVER STOPS TALKING HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE EVERY SINGLE WORD), and then she dropped the favoritism bomb.

"You like sissy better than you like me!"

She was really very sad about the whole thing so I couldn't do my usual, "I like whichever one of you gets me a cookie best" trick because Mila might have taken me seriously. So I said nothing.

Alexis chimed in, "That's not true, she likes you better than she likes me!"

And they argued about it for an hour.

AN HOUR.

So now, while I love them both, I don't like either one of them.

Day Ten

We're still in this weird middle place where i have a ton of worky work, but the girls legit have nothing they *have* to do during the day. Alexis has her usual dance classes and such, as does Mila, but they're in the evenings. School work allegedly is going to kick in next week, but for now?

Nothing.

Except that Alexis has assigned herself to a very important project. She has decided that she has to watch every second of every episode of Gilmore Girls. And it's a race.

I'm not sure if she's slept this week.

I do know that getting her out of bed in the morning requires an act of congress (or a 5-year old to climb up in her loft and push her out of bed while screaming, "WAKE UP, SISSY!"). But she's not asleep when congress gets its act together. Instead, she's wide awake and staring at a tiny screen. Which, coincidentally, is exactly what she has been doing when I've gone to bed each night at 1:00 am. It's also what she has been doing while Mila binge watches Boss Baby episodes and what she has been doing while playing Mario Kart with her sister. It's some impressive multi-tasking, honestly.

Don't worry. I have intervened and forced her to slow down. Promise.

BUT! I have also greatly enjoyed her reactions along the way. I have never binged Gilmore Girls, but rather watched every episode as it aired. I think watching it faster makes a big difference in how deeply you feel things, or maybe Alexis is just a special person. Either way, her hatred for Christopher is AMAZING. Her opinions about Dean make me think she's going to be okay in the long wrong. She super haaaaates Logan, so I'm planning to watch the Netflix episodes of grown-up Rory with her just so I can see her head explode when Logan comes back into the picture.

That is going to be AMAZING.

Especially because I keep telling her that all of Rory's bad decision-making will work out in the end. Mwahahaha!

The things we do to entertain ourselves during a quarantine.
