Summer May Have Left Me in the Dust, but BOOO!

A funny thing happened this past weekend--I woke up and suddenly realized that somebody had shoved September off a cliff and replaced it with October. Hello, holiday season!

It's no secret I love Christmas, but there's something I love EVEN MORE. It comes with fun costumes, spooky decorations, and . . . and . . . AND CHOCOLATE! You can try to tell me it's a pagan holiday and blah, blah, blah, but when I think Halloween? I think candy! And woohoo! I have a kid who is old enough to Trick or Treat, meaning I can get strangers to give me her candy. Better yet, I have an alien kid who doesn't like junk food, so I won't even have to fight her for those Snickers bars!

I might be a little bit excited about this. Ahem.

In honor of the start of The Wonderful Holiday Season, Alexis and I have started with the decorating. Um, yeah, I'm a dork and decorate for Halloween. Not as much as I would like, mind you, but I certainly decorate more than average.

We started by erecting a little cemetery in our front yard. We do it every year, so it's really not all that interesting. Nor is the giant inflatable ghost or the giant inflatable, uh, guy-like thing. We throw in a few wispy light-up ghosts, skeletons, and a bunch of pumpkins and it's all good.

Well, it's all good except for the fact that, of course, the tender-hearted tiny person is totally a chicken and is scared to death of most of my decorations. Instead of actually helping me decorate, Alexis spent her afternoon just outside of the magical invisible bubble looking on. She maintained a safe distance from the entire shebang, never letting on that she was freaked out, but being very sure to not take even a single step towards the "scary stuff."

I don't do "cute" at Halloween. There will be no teddy bears donning cute little ghost costumes. Nor will there be cute little black kittens with friendly witches and smiling bats. I want death, blood, guts, and creepy crap. I want HALLOWEEN. I'll tone it down a teeny tiny bit for the little coward, but she really needs to get with the program.

I have a feeling she just might come around to my way of thinking.

Hmmm. I like the scary face at the end.

I'm actually at the other end of the spectrum. I'm not a big fan of Halloween. Christmas I do up big, Hallowee? Bah Humbat.

She looks so cute sitting there with the pumpkins! Before you know it, she'll be pulling scary pranks on you and doing all that fun stuff you wish she were doing now.

Dood, I totally LURVE Halloween. I'm known as "the ghost house" in my old neighborhood, and at least 10 kids each year are too scared to come up and get my candy.

Alexis' scaredy-cat-ness reminds me of my neighbor. Last year on the day OF Halloween, halfway through trick-or-treating, she puts up a semi-clear garbage bag to "try to hide that scary thang" (a skeleton head & hands that slowly light up then go dark).

Ok, first, it had been up for a WHOLE MONTH, and second, I take down my decorations as soon as trick-or-treating is over! She had less than an hour to go!

Love that last photo!

Pop over to my blog for photos of the nearly finished dress. The Latina Whore's big sister is nearly complete. Mwahahaha!

So can I talk about Christmas now? It's ONLY 79 days away.

I have a love/hate relationship with Halloween... I hate the costumes. And I have no idea why - my mom could sew things I wanted, every single year... but I hate the costumes. Maybe it got more difficult to be that creative. However, I am the biggest pumpkin-carving-lover ever. I think I carved 10 or so a couple of years ago. Just for the fun of it. Those suckers are hard to fit on a bar shelf...

October 6, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterpghrugbyangel

Oooo, someone mentioned pumpkin carving and I instantly had a charred pumpkin smell memory bubble to the surface. I have a four year old and a slew of in-laws who insist on dressing up and accompanying her trick or treating (I've been told I'll be a vampire/prince/tinman this year). A strange time, but fun. :-)

Halloween being my birthday has nothing to do with the fact that I love Halloween. You know why?My 6th birthday party was totally ruined by my sister being born.Yep on my birthday. What nerve she has.Right?

I love Halloween too, and my neices are old enough to trick or treat, and Daddy (my brother) and I wll totally raid their treat bags lol.

That pic of Alexis is awesome! It could easily be photoshopped into a little Vampire or Zombie!

OhMYGOSH! I'm crackin up! That face is so doggone hilarious! *hiss*
We, like you, love Halloween and decorating. Bubby, my twelve year old son hates the halloween stuff. It scares him, bless his heart *s* Before moving here we lived in a neighborhood, perfect for Halloween. We were still the only ones with gauze and webs and eye ball lawn lights but whatever...On Halloween night we'd blast Mannheim Steamroller's sound effects through the window as we trick or treated through the neighborhood. I just knew neighbors were thinking "What are those church goin' Christians doing with all that scary Halloween stuff all over their house?" *L* Now we live...across from the creek *sigh* Having no trick-or-treaters, just skeeters = no fun. Instead we take the hour long trip to Garden Ridge every other week just to drool over the Halloween decorations - and villages too? oh yes. villages. All our fun decor is packed away in the attic, but one day...ONE DAY, we'll move back to a neighborhood, then it'll be on.

I don't do Halloween much anymore, but if there is candy corn involved, I'm in.

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Oooooh she looks so evil!

Love it!

Oh and Christmas time, you and me babe, we need to PLAN and rock the internetz with our combined madness. Email me so we can make it so...

I'm right there with you on the Halloween thing. My son's birthday is right after Christmas but I'm thinking of making him an honorary halloween birthday so that I can start having a halloween party each year. Unfortunately, my two are a bit lame and don't like the scarey stuff yet.

I love me some Halloween! The older I get, the more I like this time of year.

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAndreAnna

I love the last photo! Thanks for voting on the house colors. I am seriously loosing my mind over this!

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMandy

*pops handful of candy pumpkins in mouth, offers BB the bag...*

Halloween is my favorite, too. Always has been, and now it's even better because it comes complete with wine and food at the neighbor's house pre-ToT. :-)

Love the very convincing vampire face on Miss A. She's well on her way to appreciating the most awesome holiday, evah.

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterjenniferC

Hee, Hee. I love Halloween, too. Hate the scary stuff, but love dressing up, carving pumpkins, and of course, the candy. Do you dress up?

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJen

Love the last picture. By next year she will be on the dark side with you.

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEllyn

We LOVE to do Halloween

We have a dead tree in our front yard, that was almost cut down, but enough is still left that we can hang a body from it! YAY!!

Also with the scary signs, gravestones, etc...

Have I mentioned that I just LOVE her face!?!?!?!?

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEternal Sunshine

The reason I love Halloween. Why? Because when it's over I can start celebrating CHRISTMAS!

Will you be Dora--since you don't do 'cute' Halloween, I can think of nothing scarier ;)

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLisa@verybusymomwith4

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and we do it up big! We put up a lot of decorations and throw a big Halloween party. I'm with you, it's about blood and guts and scary stuff! I hope my little Pumpkin gets on board now that she's a bit older!

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentercaramama

I am the biggest chicken when it comes to scary stuff. Seriously. But still, I love Halloween, mostly because I like trick-or-treat! Our first year in our new home we had 1 (!) kid come to the door. My parents were here and I think we scared the crap out of her because we were so excited! We made up for it though by giving her most of the candy! My mom and I start planning our trick-or-treating strategy in like, July. We try to figure out if our neighborhood will have it at a different time than theirs so we can do both. Yep. We're really that dorky.

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterThe Mommy

Wow...I'm spooked!

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDanielle

Amen! Boo, cute Halloween! Bring on the freak show. It's the one day of the year when Michael Jackson can walk amongst the living. ;)

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterhoneywine

Whadda face! I'll bet she dresses as a princess for Halloween some day soon. ;-)

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

I would be all about the candy...but that is just a celebration of evil...I mean, fat cells, I mean...well heck I don't know what I mean.

I love this pic....my kids can't figure out why the heck I am laughing...

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJessica

She's not afraid to let the inner witch out, is she?

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Yeah! You go . . . no sappy Halloween flair for you!

Pah on Casper . . . give me a gore fest! Blood. Demons. Devils . . .

Whatever.

I'm so lame. I love Casper.

BUT, not as much as I love the spooky face . . . oooohhhh. Me so scared.

October 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLaskiGal

My kids would be SO. JEALOUS. They dream of a cool mom like you.

October 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCecily R

Darling evil look!

October 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShellie

Very cute picture!! We love Halloween too! The Kid just started asking when we were going to decorate. Um, 2 week old baby? A little tired. Must get over to storage to get the decorations for the big man. ;)

October 8, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterbeach mama

Dude, the cemetary turned out awesome!

October 8, 2008 | Unregistered Commenternikki

I LOVE the cemetary. I can't wait to have my own house where I can decorate it in an incredibly tacky and hawt way. I want over-the-top Halloween, Christmas, and hell, even Thanksgiving. There HAS to be one of those giant snow globe things with a turkey in it, right?
