Having the Two of My Life

THIS is it.

Right now.

This IS it.

Two. Two is the age that I would want to redo if I could. Two is the perfect age to be alive.

The most upsetting thing that can happen when you're two is to be told "no" when you want to watch Dora the Annoying Explorer.

When you're two, it's gloriously fun to yell, "YELLOW CAR!" each and every time you spot a little ray of sunshine on wheels.

A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a perfectly acceptable, and preferred, lunch for someone who is two.

When you're two, a hug is just a hug, and you can give anyone an instant jolt of happiness by giving them one.

A productive evening for a two-year old is when you get to play with Play-Doh AND read six books.

If you're two, it's cute when you pronounce "big truck" with a "f" where the "tr" should be.

You can pee your pants when you're two, and no one thinks anything of it.

Singing your ABC's perfectly from beginning to end is just cause for a party when you're two.

Two is a spectacularly fun age to be alive.

But since I can't go back and be two again, I'm going to blow bubbles for someone who is, and I'm going to blow those bubbles as if it's my job. Which it is.

32 isn't all that bad either.

There is something magical about two-year olds. When they're not morphed into spawns of the devil, that is.

And watching a kid play with bubbles is one of my favorite things - such joy from something so simple. We could all learn a bit about that.

Those pics look like they were taken on The Farm. Oh, I miss it.

And yes, being two would be nice.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFireMom

Perfectly said!

When life was easy, oh so easy...I went on a walk around the lake with my friends and Ethan last Sunday...at one point, he seemed to be getting a little irritated about being strapped in the stroller. We were all like "Ethan, in 20 years you would kill to kick back and have someone else do all the work while you went around the lake on a beautiful day"...if only we knew how good it was when we were 2! I would totally want to do it again too!!

The 5th one (counting up from the bottom) looks like she is commanding the bubbles. "Do my bidding!".

You know she's incredibly gorgeous, right? Rhetorical.

Such a nice post! And great pictures!!

BTW, I love your mop dog, she is so pretty. That camera really took a nice shot. I may have to get myself one of them. (The camera, not the dog. I have 2 annoying cats)

Oh, you had one of those good days and you're all rubbing it in and shit. Pshaw.

Fantastic pictures. Truly.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjust jamie

Oh to be two again! That last picture looks like her head is in the bubble...lol!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

Yes, two! I love it!!! :)

I love that last shot. Mr. Canon is such a badass. And, isn't two grand? Just wait until three my pretty. Just wait...

Peanut butter and jelly is also a perfectly acceptable lunch when you're 42.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKim

That looks like you had a great time. Bubbles rule. Mr. Canon rules. So does PB&J, especially with my homemade blackberry jam. :) Hopefully one day we can all hang out with bubbles, our Mr. Canons, and PB&J.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

I might be biased because I have a 3 year old, but I think toddlers ROCK!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

You paint a good picture of the joys of being 2 with your words and a fabulous one in the pictures. Being 2 is about personifying joy. Bubbles are the trigger but being 2 provides the fuel for the giggles, wonder and joy.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMomOnTheGo

Maybe the best part about having a two year old is the way they teach you to rediscover life.

And Alexis is unusually photogenic.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSarah O.

I get so sick of hearing about the "terrible twos." Yes, two is exhausting. But it is also exhilirating!

BTW, I'm really confused by the header. Is that a hand going into your shirt?

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJenni

We're coming to play at your house. :-)

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjayna

Bubblicious!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCheri

you deserve the "super mom of the day", gold star for that post. She'll so love you extra for that when she's all grown up *sigh*
The pics are gorgeous, as always.
I wish I could go back for a day and squeeze my babies at her age. thank for sharing it.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBirdie

Oh my goodness, i LOVE LOVE LOVE her expressions!
Great post, my friend! you rock!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMisty

ah to be 2 again.

on the other hand, that means we would have to do all that adolescent angst again.

no, thanks ;-)

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthe planet of janet

Oh I wish mine were young enough for bubbles again. *sigh*

Instead, my little Bug and I played checkers tonight. Which left me feeling pretty good, having beat the pants off him.

That feeling lasted until he beat his brother at chess.

I think he let me win. Can I have the bubbles back, please?

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterThe Sports Mama

I've never thought of it before, but two does seem to have it's benefits. I'm especially jealous of that peeing your pants thing. Drat those kids for giving me a weak bladder.

How can you get such great pictures while blowing bubbles? Look at the popped one dissipating before my very eyes.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

I like this post :)
I agree with it all and tell my husband on a weekley basis that I wish I was a toddler!

Her expressions are priceless in these pictures :)

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMary

OMG.. those pictures are awesome and so was the writing that went with them!

Love it!

Such beautiful pictures!

My 10 year old is channel flipping and you would have thought her eyes were burning when Dora came on.

Sometimes I miss 2.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSue

That's a great post. Thanks for reminding me that two can be fun. Sometimes I get lost in all the two-drama.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMadame Queen

Mr. Canon really is awesome, huh? I just wish he fit in the diaper bag. Love the one that looks like her head is in the bubble! Whoever created bubbles was a genius.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJen

Could she BE any more adorable!? Love her head in the bubble shot :)

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKellie

I wanna be 2 too!! I can almost hear her cracking up at those bubbles. TOO CUTE!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAutumn

LOVE the pics. So if I pee my pants know ya'll will judge me. Crap.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarmarbug

Those are great pictures! I especially loved the last one where the bubble is about to swallow up her head!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMaria

I never could understand why it was called the terrible two's.

It's a beautiful age.

Now, 13 on the other hand . . .

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBia

Two is great!
But then I wish they could morph to 5!
And 32 is not bad either....at least from over here.

Isn't it great when bubbles can occupy them for hours. Get the bubble machine...it's much easier...plus it keeps your hands free to drink some cocktails!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterVal

2 is grand indeed....
those bubble pics are beyond cute! oh.... let's go back in time shall we?

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHolly

GAH! ADORABLE CHILD ALERT!

Oh my goodness I could just yoink her and run for the hills. So gorgeous!!

Also, you are making me lust after that Cannon. What great photos.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKrissy

Two does sound fantastic. And if those gorgeous pictures are true, it looks fantastic too! Yeah for Two!!! And yeah for 32!!!

And OMG, those overalls are ADORABLE!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered Commentercaramama

What great pictures!! That last one is awesome!

Isn't it crazy how wonderful we have it at two and we don't even remember that age? So not fair...

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterElaine A.

I'd love to be 2! I love that age--the pics are just adorable!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

You are vicariously two. Which is almost as good...well not really, but whatever.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHRH

Love these pics, she looks so happy! Two is such a fun age. Enjoy it, cuz three is hell ;-)

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

I love it! I would say that with that little princess to blow bubbles with 32 is a great age!!!

(even tho it doesn't always feel like it)

So, cute!!!

I LOVE those bubble pictures!!!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKATE

I just love two too! I think two year olds are so curious! I love it! Love those pictures! I love the bubbles!!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

I couldn't agree more, two is awesome!

I'd like to add that naps are also cherished and totally acceptable :)

Love the bubble shots! That outfit is just darling :)

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSandy C.

Holy crap, my uterus just skipped a beat. Best bubble pictures EVER!

If I give you a chocolate covered macadamia, will you and Mr. Canon come down to Texas and take pictures of Little Man? Ok, two chocolate covered macadamia. And Satan's Dog will eat your underwear at no cost.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCatwoman

Oh to be two again.
Fabulous photos!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKathryn

Bubbles certainly are magic aren't they? Now I have to go take pics of my tots playing with bubbles:)

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNap Warden

This was an awesome post and I totally agree with you, two is a beautiful age although with the way Princes is right now.. I might go with 4 1/2.
Those pictures are so precious! I love them! You captured the absolute essence of happiness and innocence perfectly!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRachel

Two does look awesome. Looking forward to two.
Those photos are gorgeous! So sweet.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterskiplovey

Oh, two is a great age. Those are some great pics. How you managed to blow bubbles and get some great pics is beyond my talents, but yeah for you!
