What's Fair is Fair with Green Mountain Coffee

If the Internet raves endlessly about something, there's a really good chance I will run the other way. I apparently have the need to go against the norm, which means I'm the last to figure it out when the Internet was right.

WHY DIDN'T YOU GUYS YELL AT ME TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR KEURIG RAVING?

Ahem.

So, this is the part where I tell you all that you were right and that the Keurig® Brewer is indeed the greatest thing since peanut butter and jelly was first slapped between two slices of bread. I know you told me so, but I didn't really believe it until a Keurig and a couple of boxes of Green Mountain Coffee showed up at my house. Now I'm a believer and then some.

Isn't she beautiful? She really is. She's especially beautiful because she makes FANTASTIC iced coffee.

Or, maybe the Green Mountain Coffee really agrees with her. I'm not sure. I just know that a little milk, a little flavored syrup (vanilla is my favorite so far), and the Green Mountain Coffee Fair Trade Colombian K-Cup® packs come together in beautiful harmony. It only takes a few seconds for me to throw together a fantastic cup of iced coffee, and I get to do it knowing that the Fair Trade label throws some good vibes into the mix.

Which, HELLO. I've heard the term "Fair Trade" a zillion times, but it wasn't until recently that I read up on it and learned what it's all about. The long of the short is that sometimes coffee growers are in remote locations and will end up selling their raw coffee beans to a middleman for a fraction of what they are actually worth. Fair Trade means that the farmers have been paid a fair price for their beans, which hopefully results in better paid workers and an overall better quality of life in coffee-farming communities. There are no guarantees, of course, but from what I've learned, it seems that it certainly doesn't hurt to look for the label and make sure that the company who ultimately sold the coffee I'm drinking is at least trying to make the world a better (read: more fair) place.

October is Fair Trade Month. Green Mountain Coffee® is celebrating by introducing Fair Trade Certified™ Three Continent Blend and by partnering with Kelly Clarkson. She who kicks butt live (truly) will be sharing her experience of visiting a coffee farm in Peru and the importance of Fair Trade. You can join in on the fun by reading more on Facebook or on the Brand Page on BlogHer.

You can also enter to win a Keurig® Brewing System and a Green Mountain Coffee gift basket of your very own. Just check out the Choose Fair Trade website and come back here to answer the question: Are you a coffee drinker, and if so, would you consider buying fair trade coffee?
