I blinked. I don't know when I did it, but I blinked. Somehow, in exactly 52 minutes, Alexis will be 14 years old. I have a lot of words I should write about that because, really, Alexis is an amazing human being. She's smart and she's funny and there are so many things she's going to do.
And that's exactly the thought I had as she stood in the kitchen putting together little gifts for her friends. That kid is going to do so much. I shifted from that thought to opening twitter and seeing the news of Kobe Bryant and his daughter.
His 13 year old.
It's impossible to ignore that there is a mother who is mourning important pieces of her family. For one, she's mourning a little girl who was an infant a blink ago and who now won't get to have a 14th birthday.
Hold them close, y'all. Hold them close.
