Day Two Hundred Sixteen

In case you couldn't tell by my lack of words in this space this week, it has BEEN. A. WEEK.

OMG.

Lots of deadlines and chaos and blurgh. There's plenty of good going on, but it's coming with a heavy dose of hard work and late hours. The worst of it is past, thank goodness, but during the worst of it, an important lesson was learned.

Mila really does keep a leash on me during the night.

She's been toying with the idea of sleeping in her bed again. I kind of need her to decide if she's in or out on the whole thing because I'm thinking about doing a great bedroom swap. It's not worth doing if she's not going to dedicate herself to the cause. She doesn't know any of this, by the way, because I want to do it on whatever schedule I decide to do it on. So I gently nudge her towards sleeping in her bed, but if she doesn't, life will go on.

So last night she fell asleep on the couch. It's a thing she does fairly often and whatever. It's fine. While she was sleeping on the couch, I went up to her room because that's where I'm holing up for work every day. I have a fancy desk situation going on and everything. I sat down to work and got about 20 minutes into the project I had to wrap up when a sleepy little blond-headed kid showed up. She didn't even bother to make eye contact with me - she just laid down on her bed and went back to sleep.

Okay.

So I went back to working. A few minutes later, it became evident that me tapping on the keyboard was keeping Mila from falling into a deep sleep, so I paused for a minute, waited until she seemed SUPER asleep, and grabbed my laptop to go back downstairs. I settled onto the couch and went back to work.

Twenty minutes later, the blond kid showed up again. Again she just laid right down and went to sleep. Again she seemed restless every time I tapped on my laptop. So again I packed it up and went to a different room.

I bet you can guess what happened next.

We played that little game until after 2:00 am. Four whole hours of making progress, stopping, and moving because my littlest stalker just wouldn't quit following me around.

I got about four hours of sleep. Four. How much do you want to bet that could have been six, except that I couldn't seem to get Mila to drop the leash?
