Face Facts

I had something I was going to say, but I lost it somewhere between the park and my laptop. Alexis and I stopped along our commute home because I wanted to take a little walk with her and maybe get a few photos. She was in NO MOOD for my shenanigans and reverted back to her old ways of looking everywhere but at me. She turned her her back to me, she stared at the ground, she ignored me, she used her mind to send me telepathic messages that probably rhymed with "Duck Foo."

I managed to sneak in a few OK photos, but then gave up and we walked back towards the car. Because she is four, as she walked down the path, she suddenly blurted out, "Your booty stinks!"

I replied, "Duty. Duty. Duty. Duuuuuty." We have very mature conversations. Yes, we do.

She started howling with laughter because there is no word in the English language quite as funny as "Duty." I don't know why. I just know that it is.

As she cackled, I snapped this photo:

AND NOW I HAVE NO WORDS.

Wait, yes I do.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE BABY FACE?

She had it last year at this time. WHERE DID IT GO?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Believe it or not, I used to have a friend whose last name was "Duty". Much mirth was made of that.

I love that picture of her. She's so pretty.

I was watching a video of Charlotte when she was Sawyer's age now and I was flabbergasted that she ever was a baby, she's so damn grown up for a 4-year old.

I feel your pain! Oh, do I feel your pain. My baby girl is 11 1/2 now. It's NOT fair!!

And the picture of Alexis's back (wearing the halter top?) That's going to get you in a few years, too. It's weird how grown up a little girl's back can look.

Somewhere in there you'll get the hormones, too. Can't wait to read the posts when THAT happens!!

That is a WICKED picture! Like hang frame and hang on a wall wicked!
ps. sorry about the loss of your baby face. You can borrow my baby face whenever you want. He's currently using it to scream!!

She is gorgeous. It is a cruel thing for parents when that baby face disappears.

Now you know how the Crosby's will feel when he loses his! ;)

I always notice those leaps in age when I am looking at photos too. Freaks me out because it seems to happen over night.

That is exactly why I can't seem to find the "time" to work on my digital scrapbooks. It is too sad! She is beautiful.

I had the same epiphany about my son-- it's amazing what pictures show you that real life can't. Our kids are growing up. WAHHHHHHHHHH!

I giggle like a little girl every time I hear the word 'duty.'

The wait was worth it... adorable photo, and fabulous smile.

Yeah, it sucks when they insist on all of that silly growning up. But the conspiratory giggles totally make up for it. (Most of the time.) Gorgeous photos like that don't hurt, either!

Oh, do I feel your pain. I remember when my son lost his baby face. Painful! That is a gorgeous photo - it needs to hang somewhere. Absolutely beautiful.

Funny. I've been looking at my nearly grown boys lately and thinking the same thing. I've discovered that if I stare at them long enough, I'll see that baby face...hiding in the twinkle in their eyes, the dimples when they smile.

Of course, if I stare at them long enough, they start asking why I'm suddenly being a creepy stalker staring mom and the mood is lost. It's a Catch 22, really. :)

Awwwwwww! So cute!

I said the SAME THING when I scrolled to that picture! You can really see the beautiful girl/woman she will be.

She is beautiful. Her eyes are so green. And with her sparkling personality and the sense of humor of a 9 year old boy (which she apparently inherited from YOU!), you are going to be IN TROUBLE in a few years.

I have a delightful almost 8 year old I could set her up with in about 12 years or so. They could make booty/duty jokes all day.

Awesome photo. I wonder the same about Jonathan. *sigh*

Awesome shot, one I'd be sure to miss. I'm sorry to agree, she's looking a lot older, but the good thing is, she's still just gorgeous!

Er, ah, give it a year or two, and that not-a-baby-face will be missing teeth...and you'll find that the 2nd most adorable thing ever...and then it will be OVER just as you were getting to totally love it.

Immediately after that comes the phase of posing for every picture you ever wanted to take--and those poses? Annoying after the first one. Trust me. You'll beg for the averted eyes and naturalness of the not-a-pose.
