So we went to check out the parade, I posted a few pictures and my sister was all "you do know about the furries right?" I saw several kids in costume, so why is this considered inappropriate for kids?
@Wondering:
Mostly because people only know about furries through shows like CSI or other places that tend to focus on the more unusual aspects. There's nothing all that interesting about someone dressing up in an animal costume and going to visit sick kids in the hospital or just having fun, but it is interesting when sex is involved (or could be involved).
I can tell you from first hand experience, this is not the case; places like Anthrocon are very careful to keep things kid-appropriate where the general public can see things (and, really, if one cares that much about what two consenting adults are doing where no one else can see them, one has too much time on one's hand).
I would recommend you check out the Anthrocon website - and suggest your friend do the same: http://www.anthrocon.org/
